I know I would be lying if I said I didn't like snow. I do like it, just as long as I don't have to work or drive in it. Otherwise its miserable and slick and I don't really want to get in a wreck or be injured while making my way to or from some place. But snow is on its way, supposedly right around Christmas, and everyone is excited, everyone except me of course. We have guests coming for dinner and I'm not sure how nasty the roads will be for driving, hopefully it won't snow much or the roads will get plowed this year; unlike last year!! That was horrible, especially when we had to make several trips to the stores downtown for things forgotten for dinners preparation. I just hope this year is different, even though Christmas kinda snuck up on us all this year; so weird to think 2022 is just a matter of days away. 2021 will see its final moments dwindle until the clocks hit midnight on January 1, 2022. Here's hoping this next year will be a far better one for people and maybe someday we'll see this Covid crap at its end!!
But on to better things to put in thought. This year the barn hands went all out on the decorations for the barns, barn yard, fences and even the house! We didn't even have to do anything this year, it was great!! JT and the crew put their heads together and surprised us one night while we were in town doing some of our Christmas shopping. It was definitely a surprise worth coming home to I can tell you that!! They must have used every Christmas light they could get their hands on and put them up literally everywhere!! It looks so majestic and breathtaking, especially one night when it was pretty foggy, it looked so surreal and incredible I couldn't help myself and had to take pictures. Yeah they didn't come out as brilliant as I had hoped but some of them weren't too bad! I'm no professional photographer but I can take a good picture now and then!
As the year winds down to a close, we are busily trying to figure out who to retire this year and who to keep on to show through 2022. Its a very hard decision to make on some of our more prized horses. But then again by retiring them they would be headed in a new direction by either being introduced into our breeding program, or retrained for another discipline. As for our racers, we have a few older horses whom we'd love to either retrain for a Sport discipline or retire to breeding. But the hardest decision is figuring out whether to breed or show, that's the problem lol. We're tossing around all kinds of ideas but can't come up with a rock solid decision, its just too hard!! Extra Mile RPF is one of those hard decision horses. I love him to pieces, he did a pretty awesome job on the track, but now its come time to decide whether to stick him in something like Eventing, Combined Driving or Dressage, or just retire him to stud. I would absolutely LOVE to get some babies out of him, but then I would also like to get him up to Hall of Fame status so he will be worth more at stud. Why do year end decisions have to be such a pain in the rear?! We also have older show horses who should be retired as well due to their age and me wanting to get babies out of them. Some of them don't have a very long show record but hey at least they were shown. Not as much as I would have liked, but still, there's points and a small show records to prove it! But then the prospect of more new homebred babies is pretty interesting! I'm always into spreading the BWF cheer with new babies!! But we need to make a decision soon, the clock is ticking and the days are running out. We told ourselves we would make a solid decision by New Years, but we'll see how that goes. Hopefully we can come up with something, the suspense is killing me!!!
And finally in closing, the barns are open to visitors during the holidays, just don't expect to come into the house and wipe out the Christmas cookies or my girls and the barn hands will be chasing you down the driveway, or up a tree, whichever comes first, lol. Everyone is anxiously awaiting their own share of the holiday cheer! The girls wanted to make cookies for Santa, but then we decided to also give some to all the staffers here at Bavenwood to show our appreciation of all their hard work throughout the year!! Everyone has worked so hard to make Bavenwood what it is today, and I'm very proud of everyone and all that they do!!
