COMMENTARY
The words hard to manage come to mind when thinking about Granite. Yes he's a sweet boy when he wants to be and he tries his best, but sometimes he's just, well crazy! Some people would even say a slight bit nutso or wacky. He has his days just like the rest of us, but when he puts his mind to his training, he can do some pretty amazing things!! He's always been a challenge to train even from the day of his birth. Try getting a foal halter on a wiggling, squirming mass of fur and muscle, good luck with that!! Once he was weaned and out on his own, he seemed to mellow out just a little bit, that is until we started his training for under saddle work as a two year old. We had ideas running around of letting him follow in mom's hoofprints and be a Jumper, then we thought it would be best to drop him into the Dressage arena. But then when we took a more serious look at him, he really enjoyed doing both, so Eventing was definitely a factor worthy of consideration! He took to it like a duck to water; aside from his crazy antics once in awhile, he seemed to be progressing in leaps and bounds through the training. Then he'd have one of his wrong side of the bed kinda days, and you couldn't get through to him to save your life, so in his stall he sat like a naughty boy. I guess he's just too much of a momma's boy because he'll do everything I ask him to do with flair and pizazz. If anyone else tries to work with him, he gives them the cold shoulder, he's such a turkey!!
