Mornings around here are usually fairly mellow, uneventful and quiet, but not this morning!! We had a couple of the regular riders get into an argument over something silly and then it seemed like the whole dang barn was in an uproar! I came into the show barn hoping to hear some good news on one of our horses that had experienced a pretty bad bout of colic while I was at another farm checking out some new prospective horses. Well, I didn't get any good news, just news of the two riders having it out at each other over one of the schooling horses that they shared do to the fact that we didn't board many schooling horses. The majority of the barns were filled with our own homebred horses, along with any new additions we might purchased at different times of the year. So sometimes riders had to share what few schooling horses we might have with other riders, and you know how that goes.
After the morning drama session was finally over, I finally received the news I had originally come into the barn to learn about. Our big guy PPH The Last Captive had come through his bout of colic well and was on the road to recovery. The poor boy had experienced a couple other bouts of colic, but luckily we didn't have to take him in for surgery! We just needed to figure out what had caused it. Last time was a portion of moldy hay he had eaten, this time it had something to do with his grain, so now I had to figure something else out for him so he didn't get sick again!!
On a happier note, I had taken JT with me and headed to The Committee Grounds looking for some new horses. We only found a couple to start with, but plan to make another showing here very soon!! The horses we did manage to snag are:
KF Guaranteed Charming - An absolutely GORGEOUS Palomino Thoroughbred mare who will be joining our Thoroughbred Sporthorse program. We were tossing the idea of putting her on the track, but after some initial training, she didn't seem to take to track life, so off to the Sporthorse barn she went. So far she looks like she'll make an exceptional Hunter horse, but we'll see how the remainder of her training goes!!
Reinas Rockin Dreams - A Very beautiful Grullo Overo Paint Mare who will be a part of our Sporthorse breeding program once she's older. At a young 3 years of age, we're starting her on the Hunter trail. With her beauty and size and eagerness to learn, we know she will make a great Hunter. Then when she's older we will breed her to a Thoroughbred or Warmblood for a possible colored Sporthorse foal!!
We're super excited about these new additions and can't wait to peruse The Committee grounds again in search of 3 more horses for this month!! We'll definitely post what other new horses we get and where they'll be headed!!
