The weather has been extremely nice this last week which makes the grass grow and makes the horseys of Bavenwood VERY happy!!! We've started the process of cutting and baling our Orchard Grass and Alfalfa fields for this winter, so far is looks like we'll have enough to get through the colder months now that our numbers are finally more manageable!! We have a couple more fields to go, so we should definitely have enough forage for the horses. Now we're just waiting for our grain supplier from Eastern Washington to bring over a truck load of grain and other essentials. Temperatures are supposed to be in the upper 70s and low 80s, perfect hay baling weather!!
There was a mini wind storm that his us the other day, unfortunately that meant an aging hemlock tree decided to uproot and take out the roof of one of our outdoor covered arenas that's close to the tree line. I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Everett is working to remove the tree; mister logger man there, lol, and reroof the arena! He's also taking down a couple other hemlock trees in the area so we don't have this happen again sometime down the road, and you know what that means! More firewood!! Everett has also rebuilt our wood shed which is behind the mares barn so we can load that puppy up with wood again! It got a much needed renovation and now looks great!!
Recently we've rebred all the mares we wished to get foals from, we've VERY excited about quite a few of them, and hoping for some super exceptional babies to pop out next spring!! I think that 2021 is going to be a banner year for Bavenwood! We have so many great horses under wing for a lot of the major shows from Sporthorse, Flat Racing and now Working Western! We're bound to shake things up and make some noise at the major shows in the future!! We also had plans of maybe putting together a program to create a new designer breed, but I know it takes some time, and now quite sure if I want to take on an undertaking like that just yet! But we've been throwing around ideas, writing down notes and I even made up a folder for our ideas. We're bringing the staff in on this one as well and they can voice their opinions. We all understand the Knabiesians couldn't necessarily be considered a Designer Breed because there has been other people breeding them in the past. And a few of our horses we have already contain the breeds we would most like to see in this new designer breed. We're just hashing it out until we can confidently put the program in motion and start breeding the horses we want as our "Foundation" horses for the breed, so stay tuned on that!!!
