Well here's a sight for sore eyes!! I haven't been able to do anything with CU since the early 2000s!! Its been a reconstruction and a far fetched dream to get it back off the ground. With our small but growing herd of Working Westerners here in HF, we decided it was time to bring back the oldie but goodie stable, our sister stable if you will!! CU was derived of MANY fantastically bred Quarter Horses in its day, home to some of the greatest Reining, Cutting, Working Cow Horse and Reined Cowhorses to grace the Sim Working Western world!! Greats like HH Perfectionist, Smarts Dew Count, Nu Gold Chrome, Genuine Chic O'Lena, and MANY BE bred Quarter Horses. At that time Meaghan and I were in it for the long run as far as Working Western horses went. Constantly sending horses back and forth between the two of us, she started and ran the RCHA for many years. Her horses did great and so did mine!! She really helped me out in the beginning setting me up with dozens of fantastically bred horses; bloodlines I would dearly like to bring back into sim!! I just need to find my past records and go from there!! The only living horse I have from her here in HF with the old bloodlines is Jing Gold Eldorado, she is by Top Eldorado out of Jing Gold Belle. Her bloodlines were some of my top lines at the time, her momma did great things for me in the Reining pen and the breeding pen, she was one of my favorites. Meaghan owned her daddy I believe or might have just used his bloodlines with Belle to create one of the finest mares in my barn! My stallion Smarts Dew Count was actually out of a Pleasure mare who had old school bloodlines which I really liked at that time! He was a fantastic Reining horse, but also had points in Roping and Steer Stopping if I remember correctly, he also produced several great babies who went on to win and produce. One of his boys named Smart N Spicy was one of his best and he also produced several nice babies as well as excelled as a Reiner.
Fast forward 19+ years, I'm still doing Working Western on a smaller scale, still have a bunch of really nice horses, just not the old bloodlines I used to have around. I wish I had kept some of those bloodlines active and still going today as they would be a great bunch of lines to have in the barn still! Those bloodlines however are long but forgotten in sim, maybe its time to renew them to the sim world once again! CU has been needing a well deserved facelift and upgrade, maybe its time to bring back the old into the new! See what I can find in the old archives of the past Cowhorses Unlimited and bring them back to light, give them an upgrade of sorts, and incorporate them with the newer bloodlines to create my ideal Cowhorse. We'll see how that goes, lol!!
With my small but growing herd of Western horses at Bavenwood, their continued success in the show ring, collecting more Western horses, then finally making my mind up to do what Bavenwood had originally designed for; producing high quality Sporthorses, was one of the main reasons Cowhorses Unlimited was respawned into life once more! Also the constant need to keep my Western horses active and showing, and the mind set of producing the next Reining or Cutting star as well as my Sporthorses kept the thoughts of a Western Horse Barn located on the grounds of Bavenwood just for my Working Western horses a very possible thought. With the help of our main farm staff, Cowhorses Unlimited was reborn on the grounds of Bavenwood Farm! Pastures were fenced, barns were built, a state of the art half barn half Reining Arena was constructed, and finally a small breeding barn was brought to life to assist in the reproduction of the finest Western horses in the world! The staff that was hired on for this project are out of this world awesome in every way! They keep me up to date on EVERYTHING!! Their there for me no matter what, whether its helping me choose the best possible breeding pair to assisting in the purchase of a new horse to training the show horses to the utmost extent! Mindy Thompson, Jared Strong, and Greg McCleary are some of the finest people I work with! With Bavenwood Farms working like clock work under the expert hands of JT and his crew, I know the farm is in the best possible hands to keep it running smoothly. JT; as I have said before, is like my right hand man, he's my everything when it comes to the farm! He knows what works and how to do it, and keep it running smoothly! Now that CU has been constructed and the new staff intact, I have been finding myself over in the Western Training Barn more often than not. The BWF crew keeps teasing me that I'm going back to the Western world now instead of continuing on with my Sporthorse dreams, lol, hardly!! I know BWF could definitely run beyond smoothly in my absence. Its not like I'm disappearing for a long period of time, and the whole place is mine, silly people!! I just like to relive my dreams of both sides of the pen; Sporthorse and Cowhorse! The BWF staff have successfully hired on some new riders to assist in taking the horses to shows and making sure their out there making a name for themselves. The CU team needs me more than the BWF team at this point, its time to work my magic there again!!
With 2020 in full swing now, and summer closely on our heels, foaling season is quickly coming to its end for this year! I still have dreams of producing the highest level Olympic competitor possible, no matter whether its in the English or Western show ring, we'll definitely be trying our best at both! Who says one stable can't have an Olympic Level Dressage horse and an Olympic Level Reining Horse on one farm?! If that happens, at least two of my main dreams will have taken flight and put to the test, we'll then see who will win! The upcoming Sim Olympics will have some serious competitors no doubt, and we'll be ready for it!!!
As a side note we have a small foal crop of specially bred CU Cowhorses under way! Be sure to keep an eye out for these babies, their going to be extra super duper special, lol, if I do say so myself!!
