The Committee Adventures

OMG The Committee is a baaaad place, too many nice horses to choose from!! It's like horsey candy land, lol!! Good thing there's a limit, I would DEFINITELY be going over the limit!! This month we were lucky enough to snag a drop dead gorgeous Morgan mare by the name of Pineview Speechless, that girls going right to work in Dressage and maybe even Eventing or Combined Driving!! And with the facelift and upgrade to Cowhorses Unlimited we added some brilliantly bred Quarter Horses to the bunch; Pocoboonsmal FS, an outstanding and gorgeous red roan stallion who will be competing in Cutting. BE Little Sailor who is a gorgeous buckskin boy who will be hauling butt in Reining. BE Playin Hollywood a gorgeous palomino mare will be cow corralling in Reined Cow Horse. And finally BE Proud Melody another gorgeous palomino who will be heading into the Reining arena. These guys are going to do big things I can just feel it!! I have loved the BE bred Quarter horses for decades!! I have gotten loads of great BE bred horses for a long time and will love them until the end of time!! They are so special, and bred specifically for their individual disciplines with pride and careful thought. I hope to one day be able to breed horses like that here at CU again!! Its been a long time, but the wait was well worth it!!

On another note, our Morgan Reining herd has grown as well!! We were lucky to find this fantastic mare; Shimmer In Command BWF who we renamed and pretty much brought back to life. She was in horrible shape with a terrible name and left out to pasture to die. We grabbed her up without a thought, fed her, took great care of her, and she is now a shining picture of health!! Eith her advancing age we decided it best to retire her completely from the show pen to produce the next generation of champions! She still has the moves of a top notch Reiner, but not the age. So far we've gotten 2 babies out of her so far and hope for lots more in the future!! She has had several eggs flushed and in cold storage so if we get to the point of getting some more surrogate mares, she'll have babies even after she's no longer here!! But for now she's one of our super mares who will continue to grace our pastures for years to come!!!

Well, I did it again lol. The first week of July rolled around, the horses went crazy with the fireworks; thanks neighbors grrrr, and then after all that craziness, JT, a couple of the CU grooms and I headed over to The Committee yard and found a few more BE bred Quarter Horses and couldn't help ourselves but load Cowhorses Unlimited up with another 5 horses! I know, I'm bad, but like I said before, I can't help it when it comes to these horses!! So the newest additions to CU are as follows:

BE Brennas Lark - a very beautiful chestnut Quarter Horse stallion who will be competing in Reining and probably retired at the end of this year seeing how he's a 2012, he's getting up to retirement age in my opinion, but he may have a few tricks up his sleeve!!
BE Cats Remedy - a very cute little red roan boy whom I have high hopes for in either Reining or Cutting, maybe Reined Cow Horse, I can't decide!!
BE Spin Whiz - a very lovely chestnut Quarter Horse mare with a lot of try, but like Brennas Lark is getting up in age and may just be retired if she doesn't shown real well, aiming her for Reining
BE Pistol Style - She's got bloodlines to be a Cutting horse, but might have a good run or two left in the tank, she's a very nice mare!!!
BE Sheza Zana - An older girl with some nice bloodlines, will probably be retiring her as she'll be 15 next year!
And out of all those I couldn't pick a favorite if I tried!! Their all very nice horses with an amazing background! I'm anxious to put together their pedigrees once again and the oldies but goodies will probably be added to the breeding shed for their second career!

Our future plans for our CU horses is to retire all the horses over 10 years old at the end of this year and start out with a fresh supply of Cowhorses for 2021! We have huge plans for all our horses and can't wait to see what the new year brings as far as shows and new babies! The staff and myself have written down a contract to only show the horses until their about 8. That may change depending on the horse, and if they continue doing well we may retire them at 10 years, but we'll have to see how it goes. As far as some of the older guys and gals go, we will be doing a lot of embryo transfer babies from them so we can keep them in a great state of mind, and they won't have to worry about much. Most all of our stallions are available for public breeding, just not live cover as we've had horses injured while breeding that way. Our horses are worth a priceless amount to us, and any loss would be a devastating blow to our farm! I know there is a lot of controversy on the matter, the Thoroughbred people don't believe in using AI or Embryo Transfer for their racehorses, but it still seems like there is such a small gene pool in that breed. Again I could be wrong, but from what I've seen there is a ton of Mr Prospector and Northern Dancer and other stallions bloodlines throughout every Thoroughbred. They would probably argue the fact that there are a ton of Smart Chic Olena or Freckles Playboy or other stallions offspring. Well that may be true, but the Quarter Horse has a lot of different bloodlines more so than the Thoroughbred and other breeds. Of course that's just my opinion, but its what I have seen over the many years I've been in the horse industry. There's always more than enough of one bloodline, and not enough of a lot of others. In my opinion as far as Pleasure Horses go, there's not enough of the Dynamic Deluxe blood out there, but there is a ton of Zippo Pine Bar. And in the Working Western world there's bloodlines I would love to have in my barn but their so hard to come by because there isn't enough of them around, or the stallions are too old and pensioned from breeding rights. Its sad to see some stallions at the end of their days not able to carry on their great bloodlines, I just hope they have a decent amount of babies out there carrying on their names!!
