It has been raining for a good month now, the pastures are soaked, the outdoor arena is a swamp and the rain doesn't seem to want to stop. We're all anxious to the arrival of Spring which is a good 3 months away. Everyone is thankful for the indoor arena and covered round pen, at least the horses can continue training even though its so horrible out. The mares and foals are restless staying indoors for so long...can't say I blame them. So we have been taking turns bringing a couple mares and their foals to venture around the indoor arena. Yeah there may not be any grass, but at least they can stretch their legs and get some exercise instead of being cooped up all winter. The stallions are the lucky ones having a portion of their paddock covered near their stalls entrance from the pasture. And with this disgusting weather, all the horses have been blanketed. There were a few stray horses who somehow didn't get a blanket this year, and one of our very generous neighbors was nice enough to give us a few extras that she had sitting around her barn collecting dust, and she even washed them for us!
With Christmas fast approaching, all the grooms offered to decorate the barns, the house and the fence line; especially down the driveway. They even decorated a couple of the cedar trees at the farms entrance which looks super cool!! They just finished the stallion barn the other day, so now we're really in the festive mood. I was even able to sneak out to do some Christmas shopping which is rare these days with the farm being super busy year round!! Don't tell the grooms I got them stockings and presents and the whole deal; I even put a small tree up in the Barn Office, lol, they'll never know what hit them Christmas Day!!
And with the 2020 show season in the makings, Bavenwood Farm has made a few changes. We have a barn in construction for a new program here at Bavenwood. It has been an idea I have been tossing around for years; literally!! A few years back in All-Sim I had a stable called Cowhorses Unlimited where I had only Working Western Quarter Horses. Well, since joining HF and going crazy with the Cowhorse types, I now have added Paints and even Morgans to the mix! We're also in the makings of adding some lovely Arabian Western Horses as well!! With 2020 fast approaching, Cowhorses Unlimited will make another appearance, but this time in HF! I have some great ideas for possibly shows held at CU, and I hope to build it into the stable I've dreamed of for years!! CU will be stocked full of amazing Working Western horses, just wait and see!!
Also with 2019 coming to a close, Bavenwood Farms will be retiring a number of horses and will be reforming out show strings. I have done a little work on it, but just can't figure out who I want to retire, lol. I know there are plenty of youngsters in the barns who need the show experience, but some of the horses I have been campaigning for years, and its hard to finally retire them to the breeding shed!! Stay tuned, I will be posting here and in HF what horses I decide to retire and a complete list of our 2020 show string!!
Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year!!!
