Bavenwood Farm has been known to house some pretty nice racehorses in the past. We've kinda be bopped around with both Racing and Sporthorses, and we've had Champions in both rings! Then after several months of massive activity in other areas, we decided to reduce our herd which we sorely regret to this day! We sold so many great horses and miss them all dearly! So a decision was made between myself and the staff that we needed to get back into the game! We missed the thrills and excitement of the track and wanted to get back into the swing of things. After we acquired the outstanding young stallion Extra Mile from Lori and the two breedings to Xzibit from Megan, we were on our way! With the few horses we had left from our previous stock who were retired strictly for breeding, we started on our path to greatness again!!
We also have a few greats competing in the Sporthorse arenas and decided to continue in that direction as well. With some of our other horses being retired this year from the show rings left us with more time to devote to our small but growing Thoroughbred herd!! We had mulled over options all winter and decided to reduce our Mini herd until such time that we could devote more staff to taking them to shows and such. Odeon; the awesome gal that she is, decided to help us out by reclaiming the ones we got from her and housing them until we're able to acquire them back or whatever we decide to do in the future! We also have plans to go through our Warmbloods and Sporthorses to see what we can do about some of them. Some are getting up their in age, and while we'd really love to have all our horses get their HOF titles, we just don't see it happening and will do with what horses have already acquired the title and go from there.
As of January 2019, we started on a new way of thinking and improved some of our facilities. Our farm now has its own half mile track with both dirt and turf surfaces. We took out a couple old out buildings and a small outdoor arena that no one really used that much anymore since we got our newer half indoor and half outdoor arena that is HUGE!! Its kind of a silly idea to have half of it covered and half not, but it works great for hot summer weather, and the covered half can be closed up in the winter time for less windy exercising! Its made a huge world of difference when working our horses. And even being closed up, its still big enough to fit a number of horses exercising together with no problems!! My husband is a genius when it comes to building things!!! So as I was saying, we've started on a new way of thinking and have some great ideas in store for this year!! Even though we're nearly half way through the year already; which is hard to believe, but we're going to be aiming our attention to our Thoroughbred herd while letting our Morgans have a bit of a rest this year. We will most likely continue showing our Working Western and Pleasure horses, but we'll see. Our Stock Horses will be competing some as well as our Sporthorse types, and our few Arabians. So we're not going to be out of the running completely, we just have some new ideas we'd like to put into place for this year.
Our staff are all super excited about our heading back into the Racing direction. We will be focusing on Thoroughbreds only for awhile, and maybe someday get into Stock Horse racing or something else. But for now we're full speed ahead for the Thoroughbreds. We even have ideas of putting together a bigger Thoroughbred Sporthorse program and be competing our big boys and girls in the upper levels of Eventing, Dressage and Show Jumping, so keep your ears and eyes alert for any new things coming up!!!
