The day started out beautiful with bright blue skies and wispy clouds over head. A slight breeze rustled the tall grass in the front pasture as the unbred broodmares stood around enjoying the sun rays. It was another busy day in the show barns. The grooms had finally cleared out the last 6 stalls they had been using for storing extra begging and straw. They managed to move it carefully up into the upper loft where the rest of the bedding and hay was kept. JT had stopped by to check up on the goings on at the farm. I think he was just checking up on me to see if I had noticed the two mares who had foaled during the night. Yeah buddy, beat ya to them, haha! He let me know what was going on at Bavenwood and mentioned we would probably be acquiring some more new racing stock, heck yeah!! I love the chance at getting some more racers!! We already had about 25 runners, but it never hurt to get a few more. We were aiming a couple of our boys towards the Triple Crown races which was super exciting.
I was going to show JT our newest horses in training, a couple of very nice 3yo up and coming Futurity horses!! We were heading down the barn aisle when we heard a squeal and someone yelling. JT and I both broke into a run and as we can around the corner, we nearly ran over Alicia Wiggins our newest groom. She had muck fork in hand and was cussing under her breath as a horse head appeared over her wheelbarrow with a chunk of her plaid shirt in his mouth. JT raised a curious eyebrow as Alicia said, "Don't ask."
"Ripply up to his usual tricks again?" I asked.
"As usual." Alicia grumbled, "Probably should have tied him up in his stall or put him in the aisle."
"Or let him out to graze. I thought Becka wanted him out in the pasture today?" I said.
Alicia shook her head, "She changed her mind this morning when she noticed him limping. The vet checked him out and found a stone stuck in his frog, so she patched him up and he's on stall rest for the next few days."
"That would explain why he's still in his stall then." JT said, "Let me take care of that beast for you." He grinned.
"Be my guest, I've got other horses to let out anyways." Alicia handed JT her muck fork and headed off in the direction of our Cutting Horses.
Once that crazy horse was taken care of, we headed back to where out 3yo prospects were kept.
