The dawn of new year brings to light many things. Not only is it the beginning of a new year, but the start of foaling season, retirement of racers after a fantastic or dismal career, new additions to the breeding herd, and of course new faces in the show barn or race barn!
2023 has seen the retirement of a few of our racers who will either begin a new career in one of the various Sporthorse disciplines, or join the ranks of our breeding program. So far this year has brought about the retirement of Quiet Zone BWF, one of our pretty decent Turf horses. Blushing Storm BWF who did fairly well on the track, but then we decided to try her out in Eventing instead. The half siblings Xtreme Metal BWF and Xmoking Storm BWF are a couple other retirees we're uncertain what to do with, so they will get a year off to adjust and maybe join in with our Eventing or CDE competitors next year.
Heritage Danger Music is another racing retiree we believe will benefit from a switch to Eventing from racing. After 5 wins from 21 races, we felt he was ready for a change of scenery. He seems to really enjoy the Dressage training he's received, but like many horses, he goes head over heels for the Jumping portions; particularly Cross Country! JT teases he'll be a speed demon once he gets to competing and I agree!! I jumped on him myself the other day and he just vibrated with tension, anxiously awaiting the chance to tear around our newly redesigned Cross Country track!
We are also trying to decide what to do with our older racers; All Heart WI, Humorous Vow and Jinxed Spieit BWF. They are all 2017 models and I feel they are nearing the end of their rope with racing. I could be wrong though. Humorous Vow seems to still like racing, but after we've compiled their race records, that's when we'll make our final decision. Black Pearl BWF is another 2017 who has had a rollercoaster racing career. I would love the chance to change it up with her and get her into Eventing or Combined Driving, or just retire her to the broodmare band. When she let's us know she's done, we'll consider our options then!!
And another exciting thing about this year is the exceptional 2 and 3 year olds in our race string! We were lucky enough to acquire 3 new CKS bred racers from Amanda, and a dominant white filly from Tina! We're anxiously awaiting to see how these guys and gals do, and wondering who will make it to the Triple Crown races this year! The countdown is on and our horses are raring to go in the upcoming racemeets!! Stay tuned!!
