Lots of things have been going on, we gave our racehorses a much needed break after the Breeder's Cup, everyone got December off in preparation for the 2023 racing season starting in January, and boy was everyone relieved! They really enjoyed getting the chance to be a horse again and romp in the pastures and eat grass and laze around in the dim winter sunlight. The show horses even got a bit of a lay off from showing while we tried to put things into order. We had a problem in the lower pasture with all the stinken rain, the river flooded over and we didn't want any of the horses out there so everyone got moved to the upper pastures until the river drained back down. But we ended up just shutting off the back pasture because of the continuing rain, it never seems to stop around here!!
Now with the new years upon us, we've been slowly bringing horses in for some pre show or race prepping. The racers are entered in their first meet of the year and the show horses are getting ready for their first shows! Everyone seems to be in much better spirits with their short vacation, our grooms even got a couple days off for Christmas while me and the girls cleaned stalls, fed and watered, and let horses out in the pasture. But knowing JT he wouldn't stay away and ended up helping us instead of taking his days off. That guy is a die hard!! He obviously thinks us girls aren't up to the task of taking care of all these horses, haha! But it was nice having some additional help around the barns!
We are also expecting a mixed foal crop this time with American Warmbloods, Morgans, Thoroughbreds and a few more Thorgans. Boy am I glad Zym and I put the Thorgan breed together, they are super Driving horses, some of the best I've seen in years!! Their work ethic and athletic ability is outstanding, their always eager to please and ready for a new challenge!! Can't wait to see what this year holds for horse shows, races and new Champions!!
