Winter is the reason all the snow birds fly south for the winter; both human and bird kind! And you know why? Because of the cold, the rain, the wind and the general all around yuck weather we experience in Western Washington. That's the joys of being the Evergreen State! Don't get me wrong, I love the green but HATE the wet. Snow is fun...if you don't have to work in it. Rain just ruin everything, especially if your trying to get something done outdoors! And due to all this rain we've been getting there are river flood warnings! But thank goodness for covered arenas and toasty, cozy barns!! Our horses are well equipped for the weather, the storms and can easily withstand the cold! This year has been a lot better with us being able to secure several extra blankets from a local tack stores big blow out sale of winter blankets, and boy did we stock up!! I swear I thought each horse had at least 2-3 blankets each lol! Plus we had some friends donate their used but good quality blankets. We're literally up to our ears in blankets!! I even had to have a seperate room built onto the show barn to house all of the extra blankets!! But I'm glad for the extras as every month we're still visiting The Committee for new horses to use in our breeding or showing programs! Like I've said before, thank goodness for the 5 horse a month limit, otherwise ALL the stalls would be overfilled!! Plus we're also acquiring horses from other stables and breeding new foals to add to our show and racing strings! It has been a great year for new additions so far!
The Christmas Gift Exchange of 2020 brought about a renewal of vigor for the Combined Driving discipline with several new teams to send out on the course. From the proud and majestic Morgans to the naughty but cute Miniatures! So far our Combined Driving string isn't looking too shabby this year which makes it even more fun when heading to shows with all our gear. All the horses are jacked and rarin to go out on the course and kick some tail along with their drivers and handlers! We've been lucky to find some amazing people to work with all the CDE contenders and I'm happy with their progress so far with the horses individually and in teams!! JT tried his luck at it, and well he's no driver, lol, he would make a better passenger; no offense JT, but its the truth. I think he needs to stick with riding the horses instead of driving them until he can teach himself that there are more than one set of reins to handle in that situation!!
The Gift Exchange also brought us some very nice Champagne Quarter Horses for our Working Western string! I have been DYING for a couple Champagnes, and low and behold their both stallions, hehe, they will no doubt produce some amazingly colorful babies!! We even acquired a new Morgan stallion to help build up our Working Western Morgan string thanks to Sunni of Mystic Vision! She sent the very handsome and very athletic Dreamweavers Magic Moment R to our barn door where he was a very welcome site for our Working Western crew. It can be very difficult to find good quality Working Western Morgans in a Quarter Horse dominated world!! So any horses we can get our hands on we hoard religiously! Weaver will be entering all the Futurity classes this year so keep an eye out for this handsome boy!! Another sweet find was the silver buckskin Morgan mare Seacoast Silver Dollar who we actually imported from another game and happily added her to our show career even though she's 12 years old this year. We'll show her a bit and breed her afterwards!
And last but definitely not least, our Thoroughbred racing string is out of this world amazing this year!! We have so many great new additions to our original stock. We retired a couple horses who were going beyond their racing days, so they have new jobs ahead. We have a few new homebreds heading to the track along with several finely bred specimens to round out a pretty outstanding racestring. The horses haven't been doing too badly and we can't wait to see what the future holds!!
